REPUBLIQUE GRAND-TACTICAL NAPOLEONIC WARFARE IN
MINIATURE
Leader Ratings
This list of period commanders and how some of their values might be expressed
in Republique is provided here as a rough guide for game play. Beneath
most sections are additional lists of officers whose careers are not so well
known, but who, lacking any other direct knowledge, should at least be the
national average for officers of that level. Readers who have particular
insights into these officers or others not listed here should feel free to
change the leader values as needed for game play. Also, commander class could
possibly change from week to week; a normally energetic leader might have a
period of P or D behavior.
For most of the conservative armies of this
period, officer values may have been slightly reduced in order to represent the
often splintered nature of high command, as well as the use of temporary high
level formations which, due to their short existence, did not exhibit the tight
divisional cooperation seen in the more progressive armies of the period. In
some cases, the lower values are also an expression of the poor logistical
support offered to some troops, which resulted in predictable morale and
control problems among otherwise good troops.
The lowest level leaders
able to be used in Republique are divisional level generals or their
equivalents. The next level above divisional leaders will be corps or
column/wing commanders. Above these will be army commanders and/or commanders
in chief as well as national leaders. In the tables below, if only one column
supplies values for officers, we have not yet been able to establish if their
abilities varied enough over time to justify changed ratings. Republique
players who have particular insights into the various armies are encouraged to
let us know where these numbers can be fine-tuned. Last updated: June 15,
2024.
Leader value example: P2 (P = Leader Class)(2 =
Leader Rating) Class = E (energetic), P (proficient) or C
(cautious) Rating = -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
