BATTLEFLEET 1915 ALPHA
WWI NAVAL WARFARE IN MINIATURE

Reference Formulas for Creating Ship Stats

SCALES & SIZES:
Ship size = Full displacement divided by 422. Values of larger vessels are
rounded, usually to nearest 5.
Speed  = Small scale (MM): original speed multiplied by 6.12, Medium scale
= original speed multiplied by ???

ARMOR THICKNESS RATIOS:
Nickle Steel 1.00
Steel 0.90
Compound 0.70
Wrought Iron 0.50

VESSEL ARMOR VALUES (in inches):

Definitions:
BLT = Thickest main (waterline) belt value
uBLT = Thickest value of upper belt
SLP = Average thickness of sloping armored deck
MAIN = Averaged Thickest Turret/Gun Shield and Barbette
ROOF = Thickness of turret roof
SEC = Average thickest secondary turret or casemate
DCK = Total average of all horizontal (deck) armor
BLK = Bulkhead thickness

A = Broadside value at close range
B = Broadside value at medium range, end-on value at short range
C = End-on value at medium range, both angles at long range

Capital Ship with Belt Armor:
A [BLT + (SLPx1.5) x .45] + [MAIN x .40] + [SEC x .15]

B [uBLT + (DCKx1.5) x .45] + [MAIN x .40] + [SEC x .15]

C [DCK x .9] + [Averaged MAIN & ROOF x .3]

Belted Armored Cruiser w/o Barbettes
A [BLT + (SLPx1.5) x .40] + [MAIN* x .30] + [SEC x .10]

B [uBLT + (DCKx1.5) x .40] + [MAIN x .30] + [SEC x .10]

C [DCK x .8] + [Averaged BLK and MAIN x .40]
C [DCK x 1.3] + [MAIN x .15]

* - May include averaged bulkhead value

Armored Cruiser w/o Barbettes or Belt
A [(SLPx1.5) x .60] + [MAIN x .20] + [SEC x .10]

B [DCK x 1.3] + [MAIN x .15]

C [DCK x .65]

FLOOD PROTECTION:

Fore & After waterline belt Fore belt only
Great 5 inches or more
Good 3 to 4 inches 5 inches or more
Poor less than 2 3 to 4 inches
None No belt amidships

ROF:
Light QF guns: 2
Heavy guns (new): 1
Heavy guns (old): .5

SHELL SIZES
Actual shell size = weight in pounds divided by 23. Values of larger guns are then rounded to nearest 5 or 10 to speed game play. Most shell sizes under 15 use actual value without rounding. Gun penetration equals average penetration of nickle-steel at 3000, 9000 and 14000 meters range. Gun Velocity is average for 2500-2700 fps, low for anything under, and high for anything over. UK = United Kingdon, DE = Germany (Deutschland), US = United States (currently for reference), JP = Japan (Currently for reference).
