100 BC ALPHA
GREAT BATTLES OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

Troop Stat Formulas

If you have a favorite army like Parthians or Persians who you want to calculate 100 BC stats for, look no further; below is a quick instruction guide and formula that should help. This same formula was used to calculate the troop stats listed in the 100 BC Units and Formations page. We have found that the best LLMs to use for this are Grok or Claude, who seem best able to follow the formula in a repeatable way.

Step 1) Save these two files: Formula Text and Excel Data.
Step 2) In Grok or Claude, create a Project and name it something like "100 BC, Assault Ratings" and paste the text formula into that project's Instructions box, then upload the excel file into the project's Sources. Here is a sample Question/Prompt Template you can use to ask it to run the formula
Step 3) Open a fresh chat session within that project and ask (for example) the following question: "Please calculate the troop ratings for Roman Triarii circa 250 BC per this Project's Instructions and Sources." Being somewhat specific and giving extra information about expected service dates and particular troop type will help without over-constraining the AI agent. Being too vague will result in excessive variation between calculation attempts. Because of the rare and varied nature of available research material on the period, you will get some variation in results from request to request, depending on where the AI agent pulled its research information. But we have found that this formula does help get you some really quick and very workable numbers if a reasonably known troop type is canvassed. Extremely rare types for which little historical information is known may bring highly variable results, if you have insights into the period you want to develop stats for, feel free to use that to fine tune the results against known, more common troop types.

Formula Updates:
2026, 0422: Changed Normal missile target type to Common.
2026, 0517: Updated Excel data matrix chariot values, added context information to improve AI repeatability.
2026, 0519: Updated Excel data matrix to include date ranges for all categories (reduce AI cognitive load).
2026, 0529: Added instruction to formula to keep AI focused on existing instruction (Improve repeatability).
