for war, both of which take a terrible toll on the group of men portrayed.

widely recognized as a Hollywood propaganda piece, it nevertheless remains much
watched. (Historical Setting, Fictional Story) Go
Tell the Spartans (VHS), by Ted Post, 1978. With Burt Lancaster.
Men
in War (DVD), by Anthony Mann, 1957. Platoon (DVD), with Charlie Sheen. One of the first movies
to attempt a realistic depiction of combat in Southeast Asia. Its only drawback
is the somewhat sappy narration by the main character, which definitely
detracts from the movie.
Pork
Chop Hill (DVD), by Lewis Milestone, 1959. With Gregory Peck.
Red Dawn (DVD), with Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen.
Cheesy early 80s story about a group of teenagers resisting a hypothetical
communist invasion of the central United States.
Dr. Strangelove (DVD)
Dr.
Strangelove (VHS), with Peter Sellers. The classic 60s black
comedy about the end of the world. It may be impossible to heap enough praise
on this movie, mostly because of the excellent screenplay and acting. Ignore
the occasionally primitive special effects, and watch some of the best actors
of their time put in some of the best performances of their collective lives.
Personal favorite line: "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the war
room!" 317th
