Air Duty
: A Father His Son & the Man Who Won the War, by Bob Greene. A
detailed view into the attitudes, experiences and contributions of American
World War Two veterans, and especially of Col. Paul Tibetts, a veteran of over
two dozen bombing missions over Europe and overall commander of the atomic
bombing missions which ended the war. Due to the many "beginners" questions
asked by the author, questions which were answered patiently by Col. Tibetts,
the book is invaluable to students who know little of the war, its veterans, or
the missions which helped to end it. Yet it is a wonderful encyclopedia of tiny
details, which are slowly revealed by one of the best heavy bomber pilots of
the war. The story line jumps around to a certain degree, and readers may find
themselves skipping around to different parts of the book. But it is good and
invaluable reading, and the composite view still comes through, like a time
capsule whose information steadily reveals itself.

eyewitness account of all but the very first men ashore remains one of the most
quoted sources for this terrible battle.
