Campaigns
of Napoleon : The Mind and Method of History's Greatest Soldier, by
David G. Chandler. Probably the best known general Napoleonic work of this
century, Chandler's book is a good overview of the Napoleonic period. Serious
readers inevitably note a number of glaring errors, but these are commonly due
to mistakes "imported" from earlier secondary works, many of which were
apparently consulted for this volume. Overall though, it remains a very good
reference work.

« The Naval
War Nelson
Speaks : Admiral Lord Nelson in His Own Words by Joseph F. Callo At
first I was afraid that this book was another selection of already published
letters, repackaged for the mass market. But the author has a firm knowledge of
the history of Nelsonian documents as evidenced by the wonderful introduction,
and he presents excerpts from many rare and little-read items. I would have
liked to see longer quotes supplied throughout, but still an excellent
book.
