1943
BATTALION LEVEL GROUND COMBAT FOR WWII

Commonwealth Units and Formations

These unit lists should help new 1943 players orient themselves as to how the rules relate to historical organizations. They are meant only as guidelines, and players should feel free to modify them if they wish. There were an enormous variety of formations which existed throughout the war, and so again, this can serve as a primer upon which players re-create their own historical units.

For France 1940 infantry formations will tend to be steady regulars. For North Africa the Australians and New Zealanders will tend to fight as experienced and the South African formations will tend to be green. For Malaysia 1942 the Australians, Highlanders and other formations which had been in-country long enough to aclimate will tend to be experienced and other formations will tend to be green.

The "motorized" formation entry is to help outline the amount of transport and possible extra weapons available, but in major theaters like North Africa motor transport was made available to formations as needed according to mission planning (battle taxis). Infantry units did not tend to have organic transport on permanent assignment; once dropped off by the motor transport at their new location, they were back on foot again except for certain scout and other related units.

Commonwealth infantry formations have Normal or Rigid command (depending on scenario).
