BATTALION LEVEL GROUND COMBAT FOR WWII

Key List for Vehicles & Equipment

.

Tanks (Example Listing)
UNIT ARMAMENT MG ARMOR CLASS SPEED (inches) TARGET SIZE
AP / HE Ammo Art Range Hit Mod Large Medium Small
Blast-o-matic 5 A Â C Medium - M 3 20 15 10
Sloth 4 / 6, 3 C A Short P L 5 12 9 6 S
Leopard 43 8 A C Long O - 6 19 14 9.5 L
AP / HE:
The direct artillery fire attack rating for the vehicle. If two numbers are shown, the first number is the attack rating for AP (anti-tank) attacks, the second number is the attack rating for HE (anti-personnel) attacks. If only one number is shown, that value applies to all of the ammo types listed.

X = Underlined AP / HE value means that weapon is hull mounted, with accompanying arc-of-fire restrictions.

Ammo:
The ammo codes show what types of attacks may be made with that vehicle. For example, the British Staghound II is not capable of firing armor-piercing ammunition. The first ammunition type listed in a vehicle's gun code is the primary ammunition carried on board. Subsequent ammunition types are considered in limited supply and are subject to the secondary ammo rule listed under Firing/tanks.

A = May fire armor piecing (anti-tank) ammunition.
 = May fire capped/ballistic capped armor-piercing ammunition.
B = May fire HEAT ammunition (mostly a later war phenomenon, may not always be listed).
C = May fire high-explosive (anti-personnel) ammunition.
S = May "fire" smoke screens using the Light Smoke screen rule listed in the Firing section of the rules.

Art Range:
The range bracket to be used when firing direct artillery attacks. If another non-artillery related range applies (example: mortars, assault range for flamethrowers, etc.) it will be shown in parenthesis.

Hit Mod:
Notes if the vehicle experiences an additional Outstanding or Poor modifier for the To Hit dice ("O" or "P"). This will commonly be due to particular good or bad elements of the fire control system (great optics, poor sight design, particularly bad turret layout, small gun crew). If listed, this is in addition to the training rating of a vehicle base's unit. For example if a vehicle with a Poor hit modifier belongs to a unit with Outstanding training, the two ratings cancel each other out for the purposes of direct artillery fire. If the same vehicle belonged to a unit with Poor training, it would suffer from both modifiers (two Poor minuses for each To Hit die roll). If the code only applies to one of several on-board weapons, this should be noted in parenthesis.

MG:
Notes whether the vehicle has an on-board machine gun (or more than one) and if so, what size category. Each vehicle and equipment page should include a listing showing the generic values for machine guns in case of use for anti-armor roles.

Armor Class:
The armor rating for the vehicle. An armor rating followed by an "F" flag means that the flank armor is as good as the frontal armor, and the vehicle is not affected by the "flank" portion of the "At flank or rear" modifier for To Kill die rolls. An armor rating followed by an "r" flag means that the rear armor is exeptionally thin (i.e. - light), and the vehicle is cumulatively affected by the "At light rear" modifier for the To Kill die rolls in addition to the "At flank or rear" modifier.

Payload:
If the vehicle type can carry or tow a payload, it will show here; normally expressed as number of infantry bases or maximum size of field gun that can be towed. If a vehicle is commonly used for either, it will be shown as two separate lines; one as "carrier" of infantry or heavy weapons bases, and the other as "towing" of a maximum gun size.

Speed:
Lists the game speed in inches for all three major scales; large, medium and small.

Target Size:
Lists whether a vehicle falls into the Small or Large category and whether any conditions apply. Vehicles with an "h" flag cannot use hull down positions to gain protection against direct fire.
