THE EGYPTIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE 1917-1918

This on-line edition of A Brief Record of the Advance of the Egytpian Expeditionary Force is based directly on the original version released in 1919 as an official record of the actions of the Allied forces which fought in the Middle East and North Africa during World War One. The record covers events between July, 1917 and October, 1918, which eventually resulted in the collapse of the Ottoman defenses. This period saw the rise to fame of such well known personalities as T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and Edmund Allenby, and indeed the record begins with dispatches from General Allenby's headquarters.

The current priority will be with the posting of the headquarters dispatches, followed by the maps and campaign outlines. The records of service will probably be posted last, although we may also alternate them with the maps as the series proceeds. The record is terrifically interesting and is well worth the time spent reading though it. A reminder that the current events taking place worldwide are playing themselves out on ground well trodden by past events.
